it's been awhile

it's been a while since i last posted something, i know...

last weekend the kids and I, my friend Kirsch, and her boys, and Brooke, the college student that works with us all packed up our minivans and headed to the beach. My friend, is great friends with our principal who lent us the use of her beach house for the weekend. So we all camped out in a 1 bedroom house on Copano bay in Rockport. The kids had a great time fishing. Brooke is a serious fisherwoman and totally not afraid to clean a fish. They spent hours throwing out the casting net off the small pier in back of the house, and then later at the beach. Saturday, we went to the beach in Rockport, which was so shallow and warm...literally like a hot bath...and they caught about 20 little perch or some other kind of bait fish with the nets. Allie also caught a sting on the back of the leg from a jelly fish!

Then Sunday, we loaded everything up and went to the National Seashore on North Padre Island. Tyson and Brooke attempted some surf fishing, but did not have much luck. The water here, was much cooler (thank goodness) and had bigger waves-the better to boogie board on!
We did find a hermit crab or two, some interesting looking snails and a live sand dollar.

It was a great weekend! But any weekend at the beach is a great weekend!

Last game of the season!

...Thank you, God!

What a season...after several rainouts and the swine flu, the CYO season resumed with the promise that all missed games would be made up! Oh joy. I was subscribing to the "end of school year=end of season" theory, but that was not to be!

Anyway, Will played his last game today (in the sweltering heat) and made some great hits--and a homerun!
And for all you baseball fans, notice the "old school" pants/socks combination...his choice. He and Wes were discussing the differences between the way some of the pros wear their uniforms. Will definitely wanted to do the Ian Kinsler thing and wear his uniform the "oldschool way"!

Relay for Lauren

Last Friday, I walked in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Even though I discovered that I am WAY too old for "all nighters", it was a lot of fun. I walked with my friend who's little girl has PPB, a rare type of lung cancer. There are only 17 children in the US with this type of cancer, but Lauren's mom handles this like a pro. She and her daughters (her older daughter is in kindergarten at our school) are always positive and upbeat. Tricia is a fierce advocate for both her girls, but always finds something to laugh about!

Having neither of us participated in a Relay before, we both came away with tons of ideas for next year, and hope to get our schools involved, too.

Back to School

I just applied for Grad School today. I want to get my Master's in Early Childhood, and our school is affiliated with the University of Incarnate Word. So after talking with my principal, and a friend of ours on faculty there, I turned in my application today. Still a lot of things to do, but it's a start. A step in the right direction!

Yay!
